Congratulations to Ethan Lewis and Chris Griffiths for getting selected for the British Schools this weekend in Lilleshall. The boys started playing Table Tennis with me 2 and a half years ago and it gives me great pride to hear that they are doing so well. Good luck to the pair of you and I look forward to more success stories.
It is also fantastic to hear that players I started back in the day are still playing and enjoying their Table Tennis, Charlotte Slye, Steven Fawkes, Jamie Walters, Liam Winder all picking up Welsh caps this season. Dylan Lewis, Callum Westcott, Sam Griffiths, Jaymz Tutton all heavily involved in com[etitions, fundraisers and so on.
Although I have left I always look out for the Ferndale players names in tournament reports or through speaking to Scott. I think Scott is now starting to get to grips with the job and it looks like good things will be happening in the future.
Nothing would please me more than for Ferndale table tennis club to be in existence for many years to come!! I will also speak with Scott and look at visiting the club through the summer when you have a training day!
PS- Good luck to Cardiff City in the Championship next season; if anyone wants tickets to watch a premier league team such as Swansea let me know. I may be able to pull some strings!!
Regards
Stephen Gertsen
History
Ferndale Table Tennis club was first established as a TTk Greenhouse academy in 2007. The academy was overseen by Welsh International player Stephen Gertsen he was at the academy for 3 and a half years and had great success during his time here. Then ex-Scottish Junior International player Scott Johnston who was assistant coach at old TTk school Tonypandy and had previously helped Stephen with his coaching duties at Ferndale took over. Scott was in the position for a year. Scott moved on but the club has again managed to get a new coach who is going to continue to allow the club to grow. Gwyn Carvill from Bridgend TT club has now taken over at the school and will hopefully use his knowledge of the game and links within welsh table tennis to help the club go from strength to strength.
