Chris Griffiths and Kiran Parry both competed at the above mentioned competition. This was a fantastic opportunity for both players. Chris played very well in both the team event, winning 2 out of 6 matches against very strong opposition. In the singles Chris could not make it through his group to the main even but Chris will learn a lot from this competition and this will help him to progress further in this age group.
Kiran was competing in his first ever table tennis event, in the standing disability event. Kiran finished 6th in the singles event after coming third in his group and winning his first match in the 5th-8th section and then losing in the 5th and 6th play-off.
Well done both players and hopefully Ferndale's representation in this event will continue to be present for future events.
History
Ferndale Table Tennis club was first established as a TTk Greenhouse academy in 2007. The academy was overseen by Welsh International player Stephen Gertsen he was at the academy for 3 and a half years and had great success during his time here. Then ex-Scottish Junior International player Scott Johnston who was assistant coach at old TTk school Tonypandy and had previously helped Stephen with his coaching duties at Ferndale took over. Scott was in the position for a year. Scott moved on but the club has again managed to get a new coach who is going to continue to allow the club to grow. Gwyn Carvill from Bridgend TT club has now taken over at the school and will hopefully use his knowledge of the game and links within welsh table tennis to help the club go from strength to strength.
